Welcome to a very special resurrection Sunday morning here at Joy Fellowship Church. Today
for the first time at Joy Fellowship, we are holding our Baptism Service as part of our Easter,
Resurrection Sunday Morning Service.
For the rest of the day I want you to greet one another with this statement and response: He
is risen! Christ is risen indeed!
This morning is our desire that Christ is magnified, glorified and lifted high by our thoughts,
words and actions.
1. In or time together this morning before we go to the gym for water baptism portion of
the service we are going to talk about the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ, and then we are going to talk about our death burial and
resurrection.
a. Many of these scriptures will be a review for most of you this morning. This is a
celebration and remembrance of the resurrection power of the God that we serve.
2. Along with our celebration of the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit, we are going
to talk about our calling. The calling that God is placed in each of our lives. It was
Thursday morning when the Lord showed me in a dream that I was challenging each of
you in the place to walk in the calling that God has for you.
3. Following that, we are going to have a funeral service for your old man. Not one of
your family members. We are going to have a funeral service for the old person you
used to be before you are buried with him in Baptism and raised to new life with him
in Christ Jesus.

Let’s begin with celebration of Christ Jesus Death Burial and Resurrection:

 My granddaughter Sienna has a favorite book and she knows every word in this book.
Page by page. She will bring me that book and say Papa Jon will you read me this
book. That is the way I want you to see our time in the scriptures this morning. Our
favorite book, our favorite passages of scripture. We should have so much Joy
retelling and recounting Jesus triumph and resurrection over death, sin and the grave!

John 19:28-4228  After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture
might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
29  Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and
put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
30  When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed
his head, and gave up the ghost.
31  The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain
upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought
Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
32  Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was
crucified with him.
33  But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his
legs:
34  But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out
blood and water.
35  And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith
true, that ye might believe.
36  For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall
not be broken.
37  And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
38  And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of
the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave
him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.

39  And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and
brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.
40  Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the
manner of the Jews is to bury.
41  Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new
sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
42  There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the
sepulchre was nigh at hand.

John 20
1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto
the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
2  Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus
loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the LORD out of the sepulchre, and
we know not where they have laid him.
3  Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
4  So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the
sepulchre.
5  And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
6  Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the
linen clothes lie,
7  And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped
together in a place by itself.

8  Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw,
and believed.
9  For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
10  Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
11  But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped
down, and looked into the sepulchre,
12  And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet,
where the body of Jesus had lain.
13  And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because
they have taken away my LORD, and I know not where they have laid him.
14  And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and
knew not that it was Jesus.
15  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She,
supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell
me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
16  Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is
to say, Master.
17  Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to
my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my
God, and your God.
18  Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the LORD, and that he
had spoken these things unto her.

19  Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were
shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in
the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
20  And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were
the disciples glad, when they saw the LORD.
21  Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even
so send I you.
22  And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the
Holy Ghost:
23  Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye
retain, they are retained.
24  But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25  The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto
them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the
print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26  And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then
came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27  Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach
hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28  And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God.
29  Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed:
blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
30  And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not
written in this book:

31  But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God;
and that believing ye might have life through his name.
*** The 1 st point of the Message today: Jesus laid down his life for us, and
conquered dead by his victorious resurrection.

Philippians 2:5-11
5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was
made in the likeness of men:
8  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto
death, even the death of the cross.
9  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is
above every name:
10  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in
earth, and things under the earth;
11  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the
Father.
***Point #2 There is no other name that brings salvation but the name of Jesus
Christ
Acts 4:8-12

8  Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and
elders of Israel,
9  If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means
he is made whole;
10  Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus
Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him
doth this man stand here before you whole.
11  This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of
the corner.
12  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under
heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Revelation 1:18
King James Version
18  I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and
have the keys of hell and of death.
*** did you ever wonder what was happening the 3 days and 3 nights Jesus body
was in the tomb:
***Lets look behind the scene at what Christ was doing for us, and why he was
doing it!
***Peter tells us Jesus was preaching to the souls in captivity who had died
before Christ coming:
1 Peter 3:17-22

17  For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
18  For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might
bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19  By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
20  Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the
days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were
saved by water.
21  The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of
the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the
resurrection of Jesus Christ:
22  Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and
powers being made subject unto him.
Paul writes that Jesus freed the captive souls and lead them to heaven while at
the same time giving gifts of grace and ministry.
Ephesians 4:4-13
4  There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your
calling;
5  One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6  One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
7  But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
8  Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave
gifts unto men.

9  (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower
parts of the earth?
10  He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that
he might fill all things.)
11  And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some,
pastors and teachers;
12  For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body
of Christ:
13  Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto
a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
*** The 1 st point of the Message today: Jesus laid down his life for us, and

***Point #2 There is no other name that brings salvation but the name of Jesus
Christ
***Point #3 it is by the blood of Jesus that we are cleansed and made whole.
***After his resurrection Jesus ascends up into heaven and sprinkled his blood
on the mercy seat of the altar for our salvation.
Hebrews 9:1-28
1 Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly
sanctuary.
2  For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table,
and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.
3  And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;
4  Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with
gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the
tables of the covenant;

5  And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now
speak particularly.
6  Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first
tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
7  But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood,
which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
8  The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made
manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
9  Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and
sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the
conscience;
10  Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances,
imposed on them until the time of reformation.
11  But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and
more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
12  Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into
the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
13  For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean,
sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
14  How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered
himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the
living God?
15  And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of
death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first
testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
16  For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the
testator.

17  For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while
the testator liveth.
18  Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.
19  For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he
took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and
sprinkled both the book, and all the people,
20  Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.
21  Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the
ministry.
22  And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood
is no remission.
23  It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified
with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
24  For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of
the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
25  Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy
place every year with blood of others;
26  For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once
in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
27  And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
28  So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him
shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
****Point #4 we are all called to be Ambassadors for Christ Jesus

****Lets talk about the Calling God has placed on your life:
2 Peter 1:10-11
10  Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure:
for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
11  For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting
kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 4:1-7
1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the
vocation wherewith ye are called,
2  With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
3  Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4  There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your
calling;
5  One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6  One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
7  But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:14-21
14  For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all,
then were all dead:
15  And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto
themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

16  Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known
Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed
away; behold, all things are become new.
18  And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath
given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19  To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their
trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by
us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the
righteousness of God in him.
*** The 1 st point of the Message today: Jesus laid down his life for us, and

***Point #2 There is no other name that brings salvation but the name of Jesus
Christ
***Point #3 it is by the blood of Jesus that we are cleansed and made whole.
****Point #4 we are all called to be Ambassadors for Christ Jesus.
***The 5 th and closing point of the message today; Baptism is where we laid down
our old life and are raised to new life in Christ Jesus
***And now it is time for the funeral service for your old man. It is time to bury
your old sin nature.
Galatians 2:16-20
King James Version
16  Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus
Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of
Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be
justified.
17  But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is
therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.
18  For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
19  For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
20  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me:
and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who
loved me, and gave himself for me.
Romans 6:1-13
King James Version
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2  God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were
baptized into his death?
4  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was
raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in
newness of life.
5  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in
the likeness of his resurrection:

6  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be
destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7  For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8  Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9  Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more
dominion over him.
10  For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11  Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12  Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts
thereof.
13  Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield
yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as
instruments of righteousness unto God.
