Our key verse this morning is found in Mattew 16:26
Matthew 16:26
26  For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or
what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
***I want to spend some time this morning talking with you about your Soul. You see we
live in a world that focus so much on our body. Jesus spent time talking about the real
you. I believe that the devil has successfully tricked mankind into misplaced affection
and focus on our bodies and has lead many to destruction.
You see I believe if you will really see yourself for who you are as created and valued by
God that it will change your life.

I. the soul

1. the seat of the feelings, desires, affections, aversions
(our heart, soul etc.)

right use of the aids offered it by God it can attain its
highest end and secure eternal blessedness, the soul
regarded as a moral being designed for everlasting life
3. the soul as an essence which differs from the body and is
not dissolved by death (distinguished from other parts of

at your soul.

sometimes we go through things so hard and so painful that it takes all of our
effort just to breathe.
Sometimes when we are afraid we hold our breath. During times of panic attacks
or times of great anxiety we have to remind ourselves to take a deep breath. In
through the nose and out through the mouth.
Job was a man that God allowed to go through great hardship, pain and suffering
and it was during this time that Job really understood where his source of
strength and life came from. I want you to hear him speak about God’s breath in

person’s body dies when oxygen can no longer reach the brain…. In the end we
all die physically when the breath of God no longer delivers life through the lungs

the body dies.

I want you to turn to the Book of Genesis chapter 27 and I want you to see the
value and power of your soul. In Genesis chapter 27 Issac is coming to the end of
the life of his body. He knows it will not be long before his body will die. His eye
are already dim at this point and he knows it is time to give a blessing to his Son
Essau. Now many of you have heard this story many times and have always
focused on the deception of Rebekah and Jacob…..But this morning I want you to
see this story with the focus on what Issac’s soul is doing and not the actions of
Essau, Rebekah and Jacob. Focus on Issac
Genesis 27

1 And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could
not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto
him, Behold, here am I.
2  And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:

***What is Issac saying here? He is saying I know I am getting close to when the
breath of God that sustains my physical life will be taken away and my body will
die.
3  Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the
field, and take me some venison;
4  And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my
soul may bless thee before I die.
**Point #3 of the message today: There is a connection between the Soul, Spirit
and the body that is loosed in physical death.
Ecclesiastes 12:1-7
1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor
the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
2  While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds
return after the rain:
3  In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow
themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the
windows be darkened,
4  And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and
he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought
low;
5  Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and
the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall
fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:

**Back to Genesis 27:5 Issac has told his son to go hunt deer and make him some
stew that he loves and when he eats the stew his Soul will bless Essau before
Issac’s body dies.
Issac knew that when you eat with someone you open your soul to them. Paul
warns the church in 1 Corinthians that there are some people you should not eat
with. These Paul identifies as people who call themselves brothers or sisters in
Christ but are yielding their body’s and soul’s to the sins of fornication, covetous,
ect. Here is the thing.
1 Corinthians 5:11
11  But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a
brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an
extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

Back to Genesis 27:5
5  And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to
hunt for venison, and to bring it.
6  And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto
Esau thy brother, saying,
7  Bring me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before
the LORD before my death.
8  Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee.
9  Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will
make them savoury meat for thy father, such as he loveth:
10  And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat, and that he may bless thee before
his death.
11  And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I
am a smooth man:
12  My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall
bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.
13  And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son: only obey my voice,
and go fetch me them.
14  And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made
savoury meat, such as his father loved.

15  And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the
house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:
16  And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of
his neck:
17  And she gave the savoury meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand
of her son Jacob.
18  And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art
thou, my son?
19  And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy first born; I have done according as thou
badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.
20  And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And
he said, Because the LORD thy God brought it to me.
21  And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son,
whether thou be my very son Esau or not.
22  And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is
Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.
23  And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands:
so he blessed him.
24  And he said, Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am.
25  And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may
bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine and
he drank.
26  And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.

The value of your soul February 8 th 2026

27  And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and
blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which
the LORD hath blessed:
28  Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty
of corn and wine:
29  Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and
let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and
blessed be he that blesseth thee.
30  And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob
was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother
came in from his hunting.
31  And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his
father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that thy soul may bless me.
32  And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy
firstborn Esau.
33  And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken
venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have
blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.
34  And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding
bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.
35  And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing.
36  And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two
times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing.
And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?

37  And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his
brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him:
and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?
38  And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even
me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.
39  And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the
fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;
40  And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass
when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.

breath of God through his physical body to speak out words of blessing over his
son.

16  And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought
forth plentifully:
17  And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where
to bestow my fruits?
18  And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I
bestow all my fruits and my goods.
19  And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take
thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
20  But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then
whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
21  So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
22  And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life,
what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
23  The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
24  Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor
barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
25  And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
26  If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
27  Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you,
that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
28  If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into
the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
